Ooh, yeah, that is a good one. I like how smart and crafty they wrote Inara. I usually emphasis the sweet side I think she has, because too many people seem to think that Inara is scheming to the point of untrustworthy, but she also has a lot of cunning.

Inara really is good at managing social situations (some people might call it "manipulating") -- except of course, with Mal!  She definitely is crafty -- but she's also morally-centered.  This tale seems to hit the right balance, a tough act.  Most stories either lose that side of Inara, or have her over-use it to the point of making her a distasteful character.

It's actually a little fascinating that she and Mal can be talking revenge and treachery and burglary and all sorts of dangerous capers and yet they still come across as the good guys here. If VERY crafty, even around each other.

Both of them would be amazing poker players. Though I think Inara would probably win, assuming Mal didn't just cheat in an ingenious and somehow strangely honorable way that would impress her. Or one of them got some bad news that interrupted them, and the other might just let them win.

I read both of those over the weekend, forgot to comment. Like them both a lot! The one with Mal at his worst and most dark with Book as a contrast is amazing, and I liked the sweetness of the Mal/Inara one.

Alas, most of those missing links are fanfics that went victim to the big spamming event that hit FFF.net a few years back...wiped out lots of fanfics, I understand. Not all the writers reposted, so many of them are just MIA.

It's been a while since I heard from them, so that hadn't occurred to me. But maybe I could try that.

I was reading this. Meeting up with a dying childhood friend finally makes Mal admit his feelings to Inara.

Was thinking about what we know now, and how that adds yet another layer to the story.

(Formatting got screwed up on Fireflyfans at some point, so big block of text warning. But if you look past that and read it for the lines and sentences it's pretty good)
