Yeah, it's just normally when there's a reference or in-joke like that, the name has some significance or bearing on who the character is and how they act. But I don't really see anything like that here, so it's impossible to tell if it was a coincidence or not.

Serenity and Firefly are not in Nolan's top movie picks on IMDB. He might be familiar but yeah, just can't tell.

His choices are incredibly routine i notice, like something cooked up for Maxim in the back of a cab circa 1998. And his favourite directors, Kubrick and Ridley Scott (zzz), have the same strengths and weaknesses as he does.

And I seem to remember it had liberal Chinese scattered everywhere, so it's possibly an inspiration for Firefly.
