ok i watched the panel and wailed like a waily whale from wales.
big time.
cry damn you!
that's a cunning link above me.
lets's make a thread; firefly and us: the wild, the wow, the worst and the woaaaaah ho ho!
random thoughts about the show, the verse and the story that still lives. (though it may involve a little more squinting)
no rush, no gush (well ok, some maybe, koff koff!) no fuss, just bring something to the table and let's eat.

Re: happening ten times years ago
Okay, here's my Firefly story.
My husband and I both like sci-fi, but we never heard of Firefly when it was on the air. I think they missed marketing it to my demographic (people who don't watch TV lol). Anyway, years later (2009? maybe), Serenity turned up on Netflix streaming. My husband, who's always looking for sci-fi movies, spotted it and we watched it. We liked it, but it didn't turn us instantly into Firefly fanatics. Some parts of it had us saying, "huh." We hadn't heard of any of the actors; we looked them up on IMDB, and still didn't recognize anyone, except maybe Ron Glass. We saw it was based on a TV show, which I assumed was ongoing.
So, about a year later. H tells me, now the TV show is available streaming on Netflix. "Oh," I said. "Let's watch it some time. Might be fun."
I find him, later that day, and he has just watched Train Job without me.
So the first episode I saw was Bushwhacked. And that was it. Watched everything else, figured out the pilot was not the same as the movie, discovered the damn thing was cancelled ("what? but I just found it!") and spent the requisite amount of time swearing about the stupidity of TV execs, etc. Then started writing fanfic, because I just couldn't stand it that there wasn't more to this story, then found out that there were Firefly fansites, then found out what "fanfic" was (yeah, I'd been writing it for months before I knew that what I was doing had a name, or that other people did it too).
Anyway, I'm always behind the curve when it comes to pop culture (hey, I play music that was written hundreds of years ago for a living, what do you expect?) so I'm a late-comer to the Firefly party. So today I'm listening to this 10th reunion panel, and all the people fondly reminiscing about what was, and never will be again, and -- I am NOT ready to move on! No. No, no, no. I won't. (is there a stubborn icon?)
